Mahaska Bottling Company (MBC) is a family owned and operated business distributing Pepsi products operating under a franchise from PepsiCo, Inc. We are committed to provide superior products, delivery and merchandising services to our customers and communities. HistoryMahaska Bottling Company has a long family history that dates back to the early 1900’s. In 1918, a former railroad man and coalmine worker named Harry Morgan took his meager savings and purchased a small bottling plant in Oskaloosa where he proceeded to bottle a variety of soft drink flavors with primitive hand-operated machinery. Back in those days, the soft drinks were bottled in beer bottles then sold and delivered by the bottler himself using horse-drawn wagons. In 1922, Harry’s son-in-law Arnold Muhl joined him at the plant in Oskaloosa. Six years later, they decided to take on a nationally advertised, rapidly growing soft drink called Pepsi-Cola which resulted in steady growth for the Mahaska Bottling Company. Shortly after his grandfather Harry’s passing in 1947, John Muhl came on board to work with his father Arnold, and together they directed the business. In 1961, they built a new plant in Oskaloosa and, by 1981, purchased additional plants in Kansas and Nebraska. The additional plants of Pepsi Cola of Salina, Kansas and Pepsi Cola of Norfolk, Nebraska expanded their business to service 14 counties in Kansas and 15 counties in Nebraska along with the current 10 counties being served in Iowa. Early in the 1990’s, bottling operations at the various plants were discontinued when the company joined the bottling cooperative WIS-PAK which now handles the bottling process for all locations. Mahaska Bottling Company became a warehouse distributorship providing already-bottled product to the franchise areas. In 1993, Brad Muhl, the son of John Muhl, became President and CEO of the company which today consists of Mahaska Bottling Company, Snack Express Iowa, MBC Management and KBOE Radio Station, all located in Oskaloosa, as well as the management of Pepsi Cola of Salina, Kansas, Snack Express Kansas and Pepsi Cola of Norfolk, Nebraska. Mahaska Bottling Company continues to look forward to the future and hopes you “Have a Pepsi Day!” AffiliatesSome of our other business endeavors include:
